What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine which is given as small pillules, liquid remedies or topical applications such as arnica cream. Seeing a homeopath is a bit like seeing a doctor, but the appointments are more detailed. Homeopathy works by using very small amounts of a natural substance such as a plant or mineral, to trigger, or remind your body how to heal itself. It is safe for everyone to use, from pregnancy, to newborns, and all the way through to old age.
What can homeopathy help with?
Most people find their way to homeopathy after feeling disappointed with conventional medicine, or from exhausting all other options. For some, it is their last resort, but for a growing number of people, it is now their first choice. As homeopaths, we do not diagnose, but instead address each person's individual symptoms. We can therefore help with just about any health related, including, but not limited to:

What should I expect at a homeopathy appointment?

Homeopathy is a holistic therapy so in the consultation I allow you to tell me as much information as you feel is relevant, and I ask lots of questions about your current condition and medical history. I will also want to know about you as a person: your likes and dislikes, how you react to stress, and all the factors that make you individual. At the end of the consultation I will discuss my plan of action. Initially I need to see you again fairly soon - usually around a month after your treatment has begun. Then as you progress, follow up consultations can be spread further apart. Many patients then choose to maintain an ongoing, regular contact with me, after those first appointments - every six months or so, so that any other problems can be addressed quickly. To many, it is a new way of thinking about health - often a penny drop moment that makes so much sense.
Why is homeopathy gaining popularity?
In 2004, the World Health Organisation stated that homeopathy is the second biggest form of medicine globally - second to Chinese Traditional Medicine. It has been used worldwide for over 200 years. Today it is estimated that more than 600 million people use and trust homeopathy from around the world. Homeopathy is able to provide highly individualised treatment with no lasting side effects. The remedy is selected based on the totality of the individual symptoms (mental, emotional and physical). For example, no two people experience the exact same headache. Our unique symptoms are very important in homeopathy and help us to find the right remedy, which will stimulate the the body to come back to balance and heal itself. True healing is not simply the removal of symptoms; it is the rebalancing of the cause of the symptoms. This is one of the reasons why homeopathy has become so popular. Patients and health practitioners have repeatedly found that not only can it relieve symptoms, but that it can also address the underlying cause of disease, thus improving the health of the whole person.
What does the science says?
Homeopathy has been used successfully for over 200 years and there is so much scientific evidence for its efficacy, using the 'gold standard', placebo controlled, peer reviewed, double blind trials - the same criteria that the pharmaceutical industry adhere to. One particularly fascinating study followed the 2007 leptospirosis outbreak in Cuba, where the government and scientists rapidly developed a homeopathic treatment that went on to severely stop the spread of the disease and save many lives. You can read more about that here. For the thousands of other studies, you can read more about the science via the Homeopathic Research Institute.
